Description
The Sellstrom JKSS27006 is replacement ratcheting headgear for the Sellstrom S26200 welding helmet.
The compatibility note is the most important line in this listing, and it is why welding headgear is a part number rather than a category. Suspensions are not interchangeable across shells — the mounting geometry, pivot position, and tension mechanism are specific to the helmet they were designed for. Ordering headgear that looks right and does not fit means a helmet out of service and a return.
Headgear is a genuine consumable and this is worth being explicit about, because it is the part shops run past its life. A welding helmet shell lasts years. The headgear holds sweat, takes UV and radiant heat every time an arc strikes, and the plastic embrittles. The ratchet wears. Most importantly, the pivot loses its friction.
That pivot is what holds the hood up between welds and lets it drop cleanly. Worn tension means a hood that will not stay up — which a welder fights all shift — or one that will not stay down, which is how someone eventually strikes an arc before the hood arrives. Arc eye follows, hours later.
Replacing headgear costs a fraction of a helmet and restores the tool.
The ratchet adjusts one-handed, with gloves on.
