Robertshaw Cut-In Control SPST A12-700

The Robertshaw A12-700 is a cut-in control with a single pole single throw switch action.

Cold controls, sometimes called cut-in or cut-out controls, are the temperature controls fitted to refrigeration cabinets to cycle the compressor and maintain the required temperature.

Their operation is simple: as the cabinet warms, the sensing element responds, and at the cut-in temperature the contacts close and the compressor runs. As the cabinet cools, the contacts open at the cut-out temperature and the compressor stops.

The distinction between adjustable and non-adjustable controls matters in service. Some controls permit both cut-in and cut-out to be adjusted; others allow only the cut-out to be changed with a fixed differential; others are entirely factory set. Attempting to adjust a control that has no adjustment, or adjusting the wrong screw, produces settings that bear no relation to what was intended.

Where a control has been adjusted by someone attempting to solve a temperature problem, restoring it to a sensible setting and diagnosing the actual fault is the correct approach.

Applications include commercial refrigeration, coolers, freezers, and food service refrigeration equipment.
