ProCharge Leak Detector 1.8LBS With UV Dye 4125 R410A

The ProCharge 4125 is a 1.8 pound R-410A refrigerant charge containing UV dye.

UV dye is a leak detection method with a distinct advantage over electronic detection: it shows where the refrigerant has been leaking rather than where refrigerant is present at the moment of testing.

An electronic detector finds a leak only if the technician's probe passes close to it while refrigerant is escaping. On a small leak in a congested location, that may require considerable searching, and a leak that is intermittent may not be found at all.

Dye circulates with the refrigerant and oil, escapes at the leak, and accumulates at the point of escape. Illuminated under ultraviolet light, it marks the location clearly, and it continues to accumulate over time, which makes very small leaks findable that would defeat direct detection.

The limitation is that the dye must circulate before inspection, which means the system must run for a period, sometimes days, before the leak is visible.

The two methods complement each other, and using both is common practice on difficult leaks.

Applications include R-410A residential and light commercial air conditioning and heat pump service.
