The DiversiTech PRCFD305A is a round dual run capacitor rated 30 plus 5 microfarad at 440 volts, serving both the compressor and the condenser fan motor of a residential air conditioning condensing unit.

Dual capacitors dominate residential condensing units for a straightforward reason: a single-phase compressor and a single-phase condenser fan motor each require a run capacitor, and combining both elements in one can reduces parts count, mounting hardware, wiring, and assembly labour at the factory. One component, one strap, one set of connections.

The trade-off falls on the service side. Because the two sections share a case, a fault in either one condemns both, and the fan section frequently outlives several compressors' worth of capacitor duty only to be discarded when the compressor section finally drifts out of tolerance.

In this unit the 30 microfarad section connects to HERM for the compressor and the 5 microfarad section to FAN for the condenser fan motor, with C serving as the shared common connection.

Confirm both capacitance values against the condensing unit data plate rather than against the installed capacitor, since a previous repair may have introduced a mismatch. Discharge both sections before handling and record the existing wiring before disconnecting anything.
