Description
The Owens Corning 750865 is a fiberglass insulation product supplied for thermal and acoustic insulation in HVAC and building applications.
Fiberglass insulation performs by trapping air within a matrix of fine glass fibres. Still air is a poor conductor of heat, and the fibre structure prevents the convective movement that would otherwise carry heat through the space. The same structure absorbs sound energy, which is why fiberglass serves both thermal and acoustic functions in mechanical work.
In HVAC applications the material is used to insulate duct and plenums, to line equipment casings and mechanical room walls where noise transmission is a concern, and to fill cavities around duct penetrations and equipment where thermal continuity must be maintained.
Two practical points govern results. First, installed thickness determines performance: compressed insulation delivers proportionally less than its rated value, and gaps at edges and around penetrations create thermal bridges that undermine the assembly disproportionately to their area. Second, in any application involving cooling, vapour control matters. Where insulation is applied to a surface that runs below the dew point of the surrounding air, an intact vapour retarder on the warm side is what prevents moisture reaching the cold surface and condensing within the insulation.
Applications include residential and light commercial duct and plenum insulation, equipment and mechanical room acoustic treatment, and general building thermal insulation. Wear appropriate protective equipment when handling fiberglass.
