Mars Azure M10859 ECM Blower Motor 1/2-1 HP X13 Replacement

The Mars Azure M10859 is a constant-torque ECM blower motor rated 1/2 to 1 horsepower, supplied as a replacement for X13 style ECM indoor blower motors in larger furnaces, air handlers, and fan coil units.

Replacing an ECM motor differs from replacing a PSC motor in one important respect: the electronics are part of the motor. An ECM motor contains a control module that rectifies the incoming supply and commutates the winding electronically, and a failure may lie in the module rather than the motor itself. On some designs the module is separately replaceable; on others the motor is replaced complete.

That has a diagnostic consequence. An ECM motor that does nothing when commanded may have a failed module, a failed motor, a missing or incorrect low-voltage command from the equipment control, or no line voltage. Confirming that both line voltage and the expected low-voltage command are present at the motor connector, before condemning the motor, avoids replacing an expensive component to fix a control board fault.
