The JET JET708722 is an AFS-2OF replacement electrostatic outer filter for the AFS-2000 air filtration system.
Air filtration systems in woodworking exist to capture what a dust collector misses. A dust collector takes chips and coarse dust at the machine; an ambient air filtration unit hangs from the ceiling and captures the fine airborne dust that escapes and stays suspended — which is the fraction that actually matters for health. Fine wood dust is a respiratory hazard and some species are worse than that.
The outer filter is the first stage, and it is a consumable rather than a component. It loads with dust, and a loaded filter does two things: it stops filtering effectively, and it restricts airflow, which makes the unit move less air and work harder. Both mean the shop is dirtier while the machine appears to be running.
Electrostatic construction is the specification. An electrostatic filter carries a charge that attracts fine particles, capturing smaller dust than mechanical filtration alone would at the same airflow restriction.
The practical point: filters get replaced on a schedule, not when someone notices. A filtration unit with an exhausted filter is a fan.
