The Jackson Safety JKS14775 is a centering head, size #6, for pipe diameters 0.5 to 4 inch.

A centering head identifies and marks a centre-line at any angle around the circumference of a pipe. That sounds minor until you consider the alternative: finding the true top of a round pipe by eye, then marking a line along it, then locating a point at a defined angle around from it. On a curved surface with no reference edge, every one of those steps is guesswork.

Why it matters is what attaches at those angles. Branches, saddles, supports, and nozzles all connect at defined angular positions, and a branch 5 degrees out around the circumference is a branch pointing somewhere else by the time the run reaches its destination. The error compounds along the line.

The 0.5 to 4 inch range makes this the small-bore head, and the range is set by geometry rather than capability: a head must seat stably against a curve, and the curvature of a 1/2 inch pipe is nothing like that of a 12 inch one. A head sized for large pipe cannot register on small pipe at all.
