Flange Wizard FLW42050-M Magnetic Two Hole Pins

The Flange Wizard FLW42050-M is a set of magnetic two hole pins in the Medium size. They self-align on holes from 5/16 inch to 7/8 inch diameter and work on flanges from 7/16 inch to 7/8 inch thick.

Two hole pins exist because of a convention that governs almost all flanged piping: flanges are installed "two-holed," meaning the bolt holes straddle the vertical centreline so that two holes sit horizontally level with the ground. Get this wrong on a flange that is already welded to the pipe and in place, and the fix is cutting the flange off.

The pins seat into two bolt holes and provide the reference the fitter levels against, so the flange can be rotated into the correct orientation and tacked with confidence rather than hope.

Magnetic is the specification here, and it is a trade against the threaded version. Magnetic pins seat and release fast — drop them in, level, tack, pull them out — which is why they suit production work on carbon steel. What they cannot do is hold on non-ferrous flanges. Stainless, aluminium, and alloy flanges need threaded pins, which clamp mechanically.

The self-aligning action is what makes the magnetic version quick: the pin centres itself in the hole rather than requiring the fitter to fuss it into position.
