Product Highlights
Description
The ESP FF75 Furnace Fooler is a magnetic device used to hold a blower door interlock switch closed during furnace service and diagnosis.
Gas furnaces incorporate a door interlock switch that opens when the blower compartment panel is removed, shutting the appliance down. The purpose is to prevent the furnace operating with the panel off, which would allow combustion air and flue conditions to be disturbed and expose the operator to moving and live parts.
The difficulty for a technician is that diagnosing a furnace often requires it to run while the panel is off, so that voltages can be measured, flame behaviour observed, and components accessed.
A magnetic holder closes the switch so the appliance will operate with the panel removed, allowing that work to be done.
The safety implications require stating plainly. The interlock exists for a reason, and defeating it means the protection it provides is absent while the tool is fitted. The technician is then working on a running appliance with live terminals, a rotating blower, and an operating burner exposed.
The tool must be removed before the appliance is left, without exception. A furnace left in service with its interlock defeated will run with the panel off if a homeowner removes it, which is precisely the condition the switch was fitted to prevent.
Use only during active diagnosis, remain present throughout, and remove before restoring the panel.
