The Duro Dyne DS1210-158 is a ten foot length of 12 gauge slotted strut channel used for supporting mechanical services.

Strut channel is the standard framing system for mechanical support. It is a formed steel section with an open slot along one face, into which special nuts are inserted and turned to lock, allowing brackets, clamps, and hangers to be positioned anywhere along its length without drilling.

The adjustability is what makes it valuable. A support arrangement can be assembled, fitted, and then adjusted on site as the installation develops, which is how mechanical work actually proceeds.

Gauge determines strength. Twelve gauge is a heavier section than the 14 gauge commonly used for lighter duty, and carries correspondingly more load over a given span.

Load capacity depends on the span between supports as much as on the section itself, and manufacturers publish tables giving allowable loads against span for each profile. A section adequate over a short span may be substantially overloaded over a longer one, and deflection becomes visible before failure does.

Finish matters where the channel is exposed to moisture. Plain steel channel in a damp plant room or outdoors will corrode, and galvanised or coated sections are specified for those locations.
