DiversiTech Terminal Female 12-10 61234LX

The DiversiTech 61234LX is an insulated female quick disconnect terminal for 12 to 10 gauge conductors, mating with male tabs on equipment components.

Female quick disconnects are the standard field wiring termination in HVAC and refrigeration equipment. Contactors, capacitors, relays, transformers, motors, and switches are supplied with male tabs, and field conductors terminate in female disconnects that push on by hand. The arrangement allows any of these components to be changed during a service call without cutting conductors or making new splices, which is why it has become near-universal in the trade.

The 12-10 gauge range suits power connections rather than control wiring: motor and compressor leads, contactor line and load terminals, heater circuits, and equipment power connections.

Tab width matching is critical. The .187 and .250 inch widths in common use are similar enough in appearance that mismatches occur regularly in the field. An oversized terminal makes loose contact, and in a power circuit that loose joint generates heat. Heat degrades the terminal's spring temper, contact pressure drops further, and resistance rises in a self-accelerating cycle that ends in a burned terminal. Technicians frequently find melted terminals at contactor and capacitor connections where the underlying component was serviceable.

The insulation sleeve prevents accidental contact and provides strain relief at the crimp.

Use a crimp tool with adequate mechanical advantage, confirm each crimp by pull test, and when replacing a burned terminal, inspect the mating tab for damage and pitting.
